Description
“Three on the Tree” is a commissioned original oil painting for a friend and collector in South Carolina, and now, with her blessing, we’re reproducing the original for others to enjoy.
She had great memories of riding in her father’s ’72 Chevy C10, Walker coonhounds loaded in the back, traveling underneath the Carolina pines. I wanted to recreate that scene as faithfully as I could, right down to the decals on the back glass.
It’s a special one for me, too. I didn’t grow up under loblolly pines or riding in an old Chevy, but as a young boy I spent plenty of time bouncing around in old Ford trucks with coonhounds in the back. Coon hunting with dogs isn’t as common as it once was, but for a lot of hunters, those old trucks, dog boxes, and nights in the woods bring back memories of another time.
Personally, my favorite detail in the painting might be the old-school NWTF and DU decals above the dog box. I grew up seeing those logos, and something about them takes me right back. They’re small details, but they help tell the story of an era of hunting I remember well.
