Description
Few things in the outdoors are as fast, furious, wild and beautiful as the flushing of a rooster pheasant. The colors of their head, neck and breast feathers provide a vibrant contrast against the neutral browns of the habitat they’re found in during fall. And their flowing tail feathers provide variety and motion to a scene. They’re the perfect subject for any eye-catching piece of art. So when it came time to create the featured painting for the 2023 Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, flushing pheasants were on my short list of subjects. After some conversations with the crew at SEWE, I settled on this composition and created one of the largest painting’s I’ve ever put on the easel. “The Departure” was a great feature piece, and served as the artwork for their annual poster, badges, billboards and even bottles of wine. Now it’s available as a limited edition of signed and numbered canvas prints.
