Description
I learned to hunt growing up in Illinois in the late '80s and early '90s before bow hunting in our area really took off. And while I'm almost exclusively a bowhunter now, back then we did a lot of deer drives during shotgun season. I've seen countless white-tails busting out of cover and high-tailing it across a field, headed for the next block of woods. It's a sight that will stop your heart and take your breath away, and it always happens when you least expect it.
A sight that inspiring begs to be painted. Whitetails in motion are some of the most fluid, agile, and muscular creatures on earth, and when they decide to open up the throttle they can really move. In this piece, I really wanted to show off the musculature of the deer and set them up against a vibrant background of late October foliage, most of which was painted with a palette knife.
