Description

There are few things in duck hunting as rewarding as watching a well-trained labrador retriever work. I've never been the guy who poured into a duck dog to make them the best retriever they can possibly be, but I've always respected and admired those who do. Their dedication in the duck blind is second to none - except for the dog. 

In the original oil painting I wanted to convey the dynamic energy of a black lab on a retrieve, bursting into the golden light of a cold, clear sunrise. The water was almost as important (an even harder to paint) than the lab itself in telling the story. I wanted to show that explosion that happens when a well trained duck dog bursts on the scene with a singular focus in mind. Every droplet helps to tell that story and guide the viewer through the composition. The mallard decoy is a subtle addition that helps to tell the story of the scene. 

Unframed canvas prints will be rolled up and shipped in our custom shipping triangles. Your local frame shop can handle the stretching and framing of your choice. Our gallery wrapped and framed options will arrive ready to hang on the wall with hanging hardware pre-installed.
