One thing I've consistently done throughout my career is pushing outside my comfort zone and putting myself out there. I saw this aspen landscape and right away knew I wanted to painting. But I wanted it to be more spontaneous than my usual process. So I locked the brushes away and made myself paint it entirely with palette knives in one long paint session. Trying new things creatively breaks my routine and stretches my mind. I almost always like the freshness that comes with doing this and often I'll learn a new trick that I can apply to another wildlife painting.
