Description
Quail are such an important part of the Southern hunting scene, and there are so much history and culture around the hunt. So for a recent exhibit at the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, I decided to paint this group of quail against a loosely rendered backdrop of native grasses. There’s so much expression in their heads and body postures, I didn't want to detract from that with too much going on in the background. As I often do, I posted this piece on my Instagram page to let my followers comment with titles and then vote for their favorite. They chose “Follow the Leader,” and I think it’s a fitting title. It sold the second day of the show.
