I painted this in preparation for SEWE. As the featured artist, I wanted to have a robust lineup of game birds and sporting dogs. I loved this lab’s expression and painted a warm, early morning portrait with some ducks and pines in the background. In the lowcountry of South Carolina (where SEWE is held) there always seems to been an isolated pine or two on the edge of the marsh, and I felt this is a subtle detail that could help describe the setting and tell a bit more of the story.
