The largest painting I've done to date, these mallards are a commissioned piece for a couple who have begun to collect my work in their Banner Elk, NC mountain home. I painted the bright background foliage to fall in line with the hardwood treetops that grow just outside their kitchen window. When hung on the wall, it appears as if these mallards have just flown off of nearby Watauga Lake and are set to land in the kitchen sink.
I really enjoyed this painting and stayed very loose with the background foliage to enhance the sense of motion and depth perception, as well as to lock the focus in on the more tightly-painted ducks.
